"I woke up to blue sky and sun. I picked up my guests (three women) from their Christchurch accommodation and we drove to Mt Hutt, a commercial ski area, within a couple of hours drive from Christchurch. It was a glorious day. The carpark was nearly full so we were lucky to find a spot which had room for our picnic table & deck chairs.Half way through the morning we had earnt our coffee & muffin at Hubers Hut (a café near the base lodge). After a superb morning, skiing different runs, we settled in to our deck chairs & dined on salmon, chicken, rocket, tomatoes and different New Zealand cheeses, swallowed down with a glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc (not myself, the driver, I must add).We finished with a cup of coffee and chocolate brownie before heading up the mountain for an afternoon ski. The women, who were my guests were all experienced skiers so we were able to ski every run the snow conditions allowed. On the summit of the mountain we looked out over the expansive Canterbury Plains and the Rakaia River as it meandered its way to the coast and the Southern Alps from north to south with Aoraki / Mt Cook appearing above the clouds to the south. At the end of the skiing day we headed back to Christchurch via Terrace Downs Resort, for a relaxing drink, in front of the fire.A great day for all."
